The CityBus project was built for the City of Lafayette to service their public transportation vehicles.  Because CityBus had taken over transportation on the Purdue University campus their fleet increased in the number of units, on the road, causing them to out grow there existing facilities.  They needed not only additional space but better equipment to meet the demands of their increased fleet.

Utilizing a pre-engineered metal building, this building was constructed with block surrounding the lower portion of the building, and metal panel above.  The inside is painted thru out with color coded piping and ¼” epoxy floors.  The inside is broken down between the routine maintenance area with five (5) bays and three (3) parallel lifts.  The next section contains two (2) offices, a break room, locker rooms, battery storage, change room and bulk storage.  The next area has a bay for engine and transmission repair which includes a parallel lift and the main parts storage area.  The last section of the building is the paint prep and paint booth area.

Challenges of this project were: the tight construction schedule, building in a flood plain and satisfying the requirements thereof with the authorities in Chicago, buiilding on an old dump which required approx. 100 auger cast piles, grade beams cast-in- place on all structural steel column lines and a 12” thick structural slab consisting of two (2) layers of rebar.
